What I Want to Talk About

At NUS, we are campaigning to decolonise education. We recently launched an open letter, writing to universities and colleges to ask them to stop funding, be funded or partner with companies responsible for upholding colonialism and imperialism. As you know, education plays a central role in creating the conditions our society is built upon. It must be clear: universities and colleges absolutely should not be contributing to flooding, droughts, disease, conflict, and war across the world.
Education providers have a social responsibility, not only in designing their curriculum and its delivery, but also in how they choose to spend the funding allocated to them. For many years, students and staff have been calling on the education sector to break their links with companies responsible for upholding colonialism and imperialism. As of this day, more than 91 British universities have committed to divest from fossil fuels and very few have committed to divest from arms trade. Join us today! Add your name to the letter.
My work,
my causes
We want it to become an accepted norm that education shouldn’t be linked to colonialism and imperialism in any way, starting with their links to the private sector.
